I can really relate to this struggle to overcome self-doubt. And I know first hand the role self-doubt plays in inhibiting your productivity.
As a recovering perfectionist, it used to take me FOREVER to complete anything because I kept going back and forth to make sure it was PERFECT. And then I would still second guess myself and my work.
There are two things that I’ve found incredibly helpful in dealing with this struggle. The first, is learning to trust yourself and the second is aiming for B+ work. Read on or give this episode a listen to learn how these two techniques can help you get out of the never ending loop of second guessing and self-doubt!
There are two things I’ve found incredibly helpful in learning to release self-doubt and get things done!
Lean into your intuition
First up, is learning to trust yourself. This is so, so, so important to moving past the constant doubt about everything you do. But it also might sound impossible if you’re struggling with self-doubt on a daily basis.
The tool which had the biggest impact on helping me begin to trust myself was learning to connect with and listen to my intuition.
The more I’ve developed my intuition, the deeper that trust in myself and my decisions has become. I can now quickly and easily make decisions and move on without second guessing if it was the right choice for me.
If this isn’t already a tool in your toolkit, or if communicating with your intuition feels really out-there for you, check out my Intuition Mini-Course. Take it at your own pace – this course will give you three actionable techniques that can help you make decisions quickly, easily, and with confidence. And it’s all in plain English – no complicated concepts or theories you need to understand to use these tools!
Aim for B+
The second technique I’ve found to be incredibly helpful in removing self-doubt is aiming for B+ work. This might sound like the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve, but give me a minute!
The more we struggle, second-guess, and doubt ourselves, the longer it takes to get anything out there into the world. And the longer it takes before we get any feedback so that we’re able to learn, grow, and improve the next time around.
What if instead of aiming for perfection, you instead set your sights on putting out B+ work. You know from that start that it won’t be perfect. It will be pretty good, but not perfect.
If you know right away that what you’re putting out isn’t perfect, then you know you will likely get feedback about where you might do better next time.
In a backward way, that takes the pressure off the self-doubt. You KNOW it isn’t perfect. So you don’t have to stress and wonder IF it’s perfect.
AND the faster you put your work out there, the quicker you get feedback, and the more you’re able to learn and grow so you can do better next time.
If this feels like a real struggle, take a deep breath, take a break for self-care, practice some of my favorite mindfulness techniques, or go back to number one – check in with your intuition!
I’m sending you a great big hug – you’ve got this!
